Adding Non-Applicants as Applicants or Filing Independently

Adding Non-Applicants as Applicants or Filing Independently

If you are currently not listed as an applicant on a case but wish to become one, you have two primary options:

1. Existing Case (Becoming an Applicant):

Process:

  • You’d want to contact the agency who manages the case you’re a non applicant on
  • Inform them that you would like to become an applicant
  • Provide income ( if you have any)
  • Clarify relations with those on the existing case, regarding filing status.

2. Filing Independently (No Existing Applicant Relationship):

  • If you are non applicant and are filing independently:

    • You may initiate a new case as the primary applicant if you wish not to be added as an applicant on the existing case

Process:

  • Prepare the necessary documentation and forms as required to complete application process either online on MNsure.org or paper application

  • Provide income since MNsure does go based off income limit

  • Submit your application according to income limit guidelines and eligibility to the right agency if not completed online.
